New England River House

Situated on a perch overlooking the convergence of two rivers, the simple geometric volumes of this house are a strong counterpoint to the wild and overgrown surrounding landscape. The rivers change dramatically throughout the course of the year resulting in a dynamic vista with the arrival of each new season.

Formally, the house’s four volumes are arranged in such a way so as to give privacy and create unique exchanges with the landscape. Exterior walls open, blurring the boundary between inside and outside, and the location of guest quarters allows the house to become smaller when not fully occupied – all creating a subtle dynamism akin to the changing nature of the site beyond.
